🏥 There's been a lot of talk about ICU beds and ventilators throughout the pandemic. But, for Practical Patient Care, I spoke to Dr Tim Cook and Dr Greg Martin about the impact of Covid19 on ICU departments' most valuable resources: their doctors and nurses.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🤰🏻'Poor physical health can have a huge impact on our mental wellbeing, especially when growing another human, and I’m so over the idea that us mothers should just struggle through. The common theme that we’re having a baby seems to imply that nothing else really matters.'
🩺‘I left so many appointments feeling like I was wasting the doctor’s time’
“Even as a proudly pro-choice woman, the thought of anyone requesting two weeks of ‘abortion leave’ seemed unthinkable. But it’s for exactly this reason that its inclusion feels so radical. Not only is it an important statement supporting our right to reproductive choice, but it also helps to normalise and validate abortion as a common but complex life experience.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧠Yes, five years at medical school probably does trump one quick Google search — but a lifetime of living in your own body is an absolutely valid form of expertise, which your doctor should be willing to take on board. You know when something is wrong, even if you don’t know why or how to fix it.
📚A bit of news: I'm writing a book with the lovely people @bloomsburypublishing!
